The greening strategy for this event will be defined at the outset and implemented by a member of the organizing team who has been designated as the “Green Coordinator”. Here are a few examples of sustainable practices that will be implemented:
Air travel
Montréal is accessible from the world major cities with direct flights, thus limiting airline emissions.
Facilities
Palais des congrès de Montréal is located dowtown. It is directly linked to 4,000 hotel rooms, and easily accessible with public transit (metro, bus), therefore limiting gas emissions from the use of private cars and taxis.
Catering services
Specific green guidelines will be applied for food and beverage procurement.
Accommodation
Hotels will be selected according to their environmental programs.
Suppliers
Preference will be given to green products. When possible, local suppliers will be used, especially for produce and other food products and beverages.
Communications
Green messages will be conveyed to participants, partners and the media. Focus will be put on online promotion. Some printed material will be done in appropriate numbers using recycled paper and vegetal ink.
partners
Partner practices respect all local and national environmental legislation.
Recycling and compost
Green measures will be implemented on site in this regard.
Green team
During the event, a team of volunteers will be designated to assist with environmental enquiries and answer questions related to the greening strategy. It will be responsible for implementing the measures on site.
After the event
Participants will be asked to return badges and unused supplies which will be given out to designated community groups. Offsetting of GHG emissions through purchase of credits will be envisaged.
